So helpful and encouraging... looking forward to working with her on my next book.

I recently worked with Kat on my first children's book. Kat was so helpful and encouraging, offering suggestions of small changes whilst remaining supportive and enthusiastic about my work. She was very friendly and professional throughout the proof reading process and I am very much looking forward to working with her again on my next book. Thoroughly recommend.

Frequently asked questions

General and Process

How does the process work?

Once you get in touch, I usually ask for a 1,000-word sample of your document. This allows me to assess the level of editing required and provide an accurate quote. Once agreed, I provide a firm deadline and return your work with tracked changes and comments so you can see every edit made.

How quickly can you turn work around?

For smaller business reports or articles, I can often offer a 24-to-48-hour turnaround. For larger projects like books or theses, we will agree on a schedule that fits your deadline while ensuring the highest level of detail.

What is the difference between proofreading and editing?

In short, proofreading is the final check for errors (spelling, grammar, punctuation) before publication. Editing (or copyediting) is more in-depth; I look at sentence structure, flow, clarity, and consistency to ensure your message is as strong as possible.

Authors and Publishing

Can you help me prepare my manuscript for self-publishing?

Definitely. As a published author myself, I understand the journey. I provide developmental feedback, copyediting, and final proofreading to ensure your book meets professional publishing standards before it hits the shelves.

Which style guides do you use?

I am proficient in most major style guides, including APA, MLA, Harvard, and MHRA. For fiction and business clients, I can work to your specific house style or create a style sheet for your project to ensure total consistency.

Academic and ESOL

Do you follow University Proofreading Policies?

Yes, absolutely. I am committed to academic integrity. My role is to improve the clarity and flow of your writing, not to rewrite your research or change your arguments. I ensure your work adheres to your institution's specific guidelines.

I am an international student; can you help make my writing sound more "natural"?

Yes. I specialise in linguistic polishing for ESOL (English as a second or other language) writers. I focus on idiomatic phrasing and "natural" flow while carefully preserving your unique voice and the original meaning of your research.

Business and corporate FAQ

Can you work with my company’s "House Style"?

Yes. I am experienced in adapting to specific corporate style guides to ensure brand consistency across all reports, white papers, and marketing materials. If you don't have a formal style guide, I can help you establish a consistent set of rules for your organisation's communications.

What file formats do you accept?

Most business clients prefer to work in Microsoft Word using tracked changes so they can review every edit. However, I am also comfortable editing directly in PowerPoint, or providing markup on PDFs. For website copy, I can work within your CMS or provide the text in a structured format ready for upload.

Do you provide a formal invoice for accounting purposes?

Absolutely. As a registered sole trader, I provide professional invoices for every project. I can include purchase order (PO) numbers if your accounting department requires them, and I am set up to receive payments via bank transfer.

Is there a limit to the size of the project?

No project is too small or too large, although I do have a minimum fee of £50. I regularly handle everything from 500-word press releases to 100,000-word corporate histories and multi-volume technical reports. For very large projects, I can provide a phased delivery schedule so your team can begin their internal review while I continue working on subsequent sections.

Confidentiality and security

Is my document kept confidential?

Absolutely. I am a sole trader and I do not outsource or employ any other proofreaders, editors or copywriters. All work is carried out personally by me. Any documents you send are stored securely on my personal, password-protected hard drive and are never shared with third parties. Once our project is finalised, I am happy to permanently delete your files from my system upon request. I am also fully prepared to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) for sensitive corporate or research projects.

Careers and collaborations

Are you currently hiring or offering work experience?

I am a dedicated sole trader and do not employ additional proofreaders, editors, or copywriters. As I manage all projects personally to maintain a high standard of quality, I do not have any job vacancies or work experience opportunities available. I am unable to respond to speculative applications at this time.
